Certificate in Non-Profit Management

The Certificate in Non-Profit Management is offered for adults, degree-seeking or non-degree-seeking, who wish to have an interdisciplinary knowledge of non-profit management but who do not qualify for or need a minor. The certificate consists of 18 semester hours (optional 21 hours). Non-degree seeking students may begin enrolling in courses for Fall 2010.

For information about how to fulfill the internship portion of this certificate, please contact the ACT (Appalachian and the Community Together) for a list of community partner agencies. Many of these agencies are willing to take on interns, in addition to volunteers and service-learning students. An Internship & Volunteer Fair is held on campus in late January or attending the Making A Difference Career Fair in late March allows you an opportunity to meet many of our local agencies all in one location. If you choose the 300 hour internship option, you need to be aware of a potential educational stipend offered by NC-ACTS! AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps students serve as key volunteers at various non-profit community agencies throughout the academic year. NC ACTS! Americorps members work to advance the missions of service agencies through direct service and help manage a variety of special projects aimed at increasing volunteer support in the community.

By completing 300 hours of volunteer time (approximately 10 hours per week) students are eligible for a $1,000 education award that can be used for current educational expenses, to pay off student loans, or for future graduate school expenses.
